Starting in Jul 2014, I will take part in the Global Citizens Program, an international skill-based volunteering program which aims to increase the knowledge transfer to partner organizations in the field of development work. During the 3 months to Oct 2014, I will work in Nairobi, Kenya, on a Microfinance capacity building initiative at Equity Bank.
The initiative has been established in partnership with Swisscontact, an independent foundation of the Swiss private sector for international development cooperation, in line with one of the key principles applied by Swisscontact when fighting poverty and promoting economic and social development – help others to help themselves.
Equity Bank Group is a universal commercial microfinance bank which aim is the socio-economic transformation the lives and livelihoods of its clients through providing inclusive financial services that empower them to maximize their opportunities.
The Group’s product offering ranges from savings, credits, trade finance, FX, payments, custody, bancassurance to business advisory, investment management, corporate finance and brokerage. Its clients span people from the bottom of the wealth pyramid to High Net Worth Individuals (HNWI) and from micro enterprises through SMEs, Large Corporates and Multi-national companies to governmental organizations.
In line with Equity’s mission to help its clients transform their livelihoods, the objective of my assignment is to help with the further development and implementation of Equity Investment Bank as part of the Group so it can serve the more sophisticated needs of those clients who have transitioned to SMEs, Corporates and HNWIs in the East African context.
